Restored reproduction of an original advert included in the 1930 edition of the "The River Tyne Its Trade and Facilities". Printed and published by Andrew Reid & Company Ltd. of Strawberry House, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Founded in 1847 by William George Armstrong in Newcastle upon Tyne, Armstrong Whitworth began with hydraulic machinery, cranes, and artillery. It merged with Charles Mitchell’s shipyard in 1882, and later with Joseph Whitworth in 1897, forming Sir W.G. Armstrong Whitworth & Co. Ltd.
The company built warships, locomotives, cars, and aircraft, and was a major supplier to the British military, especially during WWI, producing tanks, guns, and ships. Its aircraft division became Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft in 1920.
In 1927, it merged with Vickers Ltd to form Vickers-Armstrongs, marking the end of the Armstrong Whitworth name—but its legacy lives on in engineering, aviation, and maritime history.
Printed on high quality 230gsm matt archival paper.
